Let me begin with an old story which many of us might have heard in the childhood. it is the story of a frog in a water well. There was a small water well in a farm where entire colony of frog was settled from many years. For those frogs, the well was their only world and they have accepted this since generations up to the level of the fact that they laugh and refuse the existence of the world outside their well. One rainy evening, another young frog in the farm outside, accidently fell into the well and he was surprised to learn about their limited knowledge and closed mindsets. This new frog went to their leader and tried to explain the reality, but now here, the ego of leader frog's got hurt; and he started abusing the new frog and passed an order to take new frog into custody as the new frog is mentally unstable and so threat to their colony. Meanwhile, daughter of that leader frog felt sympathy for this new frog and somehow managed to escape with him, out of the well and started living into new and open 'real' world.
Wheel of time started rolling and one night, heavy rain started resulting in severe flood. Now, with this disaster, the well in that farm started overflowing with water and hence, rest of the colonized frogs were drained out in the open world which was absolutely new for them and so they have not developed the methodology to live in open environment. This struggle started with much of the hardship and they started being killed by dogs and cats. While roaming here and there in a group to survive, all of a sudden they saw a hope. That escaped frog and daughter of that leader frog of their community - which is now his wife, came to their rescue. Unfortunately, by that time damage was done and more than half of the frog colony was vanished.
Now, the point here is we have customised our lives with our surrounding and accepted the environment and culture around us like those frogs in that well; and it is not limited to our thoughts and belief, but our religion, country, tradition, technology or even knowledge. We have established our mindsets that this is all and everything. If something is out of this boundary of our knowledge, experience and/or customs and new, we tend to laugh at such things and humiliate any such person with new knowledge and/or ideas in very insulting and abusive manner - because our ego is hurt there! We might be knowing something in our surroundings from long time, but it is not necessary that that is the only fact and world is limited to that fact. Remember, it is our perspective. We have made boundaries around us and we do not want to cross those boundaries because it is something out of our comfort zone.
And if someone tries to do so, either we laugh at that person or try to stop him/her; because we are afraid that
- this person will be more powerful and knowledgeable than us, if succeeded
- and he/she may endanger our survival by gaining more respect and glory and success, and so people around us will love that person more than us!
You know what, funny thing is we are absolutely unaware about our own abilities and potential because we have never tried to push our efforts beyond our comfort zone, and so as we do not know what is beyond the boundaries.
I have seen a very interesting presentation about the universe and learnt that our whole solar system - where our small little earth exists, is not more than a very small microscopic point and our universe is still expanding. We do not know where is the boundary of it, neither our machines have gone out of our solar system yet, nor we beyond the moon. We do not know what is beyond that darkness of the universe, because we have not yet developed our capabilities to explore it fully; and on the earth here, in a limited regime of our settlement, we have 'fixed' our mindsets that we know everything and only we know the truth, and those who challenge this truth are either fools or 'illiterates' in our eyes. Whom we are trying to fool here? Ourselves? and Why?
My dear brothers and sisters, all I want to tell is first of all, let us push our own visionary boundaries to the next level and operate our full potential to explore our own strengths. Let us empower ourselves first, by advancing the horizons of our knowledge and let us embrace the change in life to make it more glorious and colourful.
Thank you. Keep Muskurana (Smile always) :-)
