Know your place. Anyplace. Sharing the good word about what3words at holiday time...
Keeping up the chat at a holiday party, as I can attest, is easier when you can slip in mention of a career in mapping and navigation. Everyone I meet is nav-dependent, has their own funny nav story, and has an interest in hearing tales of adventure from the mapping industry. This holiday season I have rolled out a new topic to captivate party-goers recounting their crazy routing experiences; it is the concept and innovation of what3words (https://what3words.com).
Here in the nav age; the drone age, without even thinking about it, we in the Developed World have come to understand something about the promise of an accurate and complete electronic map... We would never have found the place without our nav! what3words is a global, continuous, and surprisingly sensible addressing system that offers that same promise... of that same completeness... to the Entire World.
Without leaving a trace, what3words is providing a positionally level playing field for everyone on Earth. It is absolute democratization of the address. This is an easy concept to convey, and clearly, an institution that can treat every person with total equity is a rare, powerful, and empowering thing. what3words is certainly such an institution. In his recent Ted Talk, Chris Sheldrick speaks charmingly about his invention; the inspiration, the elevator pitch, and some of the revolutionary impacts... (https://www.ted.com/talks/chris_sheldrick_a_precise_three_word_address_for_every_place_on_earth/up-next#t-11826)
what3words is such an easy concept to explain and to grasp, yet it will transform the opportunity for billions of people to be recognized and to participate in the World's economy. Go to what3words and find a location that you imagine has no address, or find one of my favorite places that only does now, at crunchy.displaying.skinny. I am not affiliated with what3words, but the concept and potential have captured my imagination. I am sure you all will agree, this is worth knowing about.
Cheers! Mark
