Know your numbers

My spin output metrics- I know them like the back of my hand - because, well, they are sitting there for me to see after class every single morning.?

I know that my average calorie output in a 45-minute class is around 375 calories (which is nearly half of what it was when I first started riding- heart strength!) I know during the intervals, I will burn 40 calories on average, and that by the time we hit weights, I should be at 250 calories of output, or I am not pushing myself hard enough. I know that for me, I expend more calories on fast jogs then I do on heavy climbs, and that if I hit 500 calories or more in 1 class, the class was either full of fast jogs, and/or I really pushed myself that RIDE.?I know that I am obsessed with measuring my results in class and getting more efficient and stronger each class, and that when I forget to put on my watch, or it is not working correctly that I feel like my work was for nothing because it was not measured. It's cliche but true- what gets measured, gets results.?

And now that I know my numbers, I am constantly trying to better my best. Constantly pushing myself to do more, and get to that next peak, and throughout class I am checking my progress to make sure I am working hard enough to reach my goals.

This is true in my day job as well where we are obsessed with metrics. My leader, Jake Myers, often talks about B + A = Results (Behaviors + Activities = Results), and our CRM that will show us what our output is for our effort IF we use the tool correctly. So, what if we did just that? What if we became as obsessed with tracking our output and results in our 9-5s as we are with our workouts? What would that mean for us? What could we achieve??

This is a topic we are discussing and working on as a team constantly, and a big shout out to my peer Ryan Kedzierski and his team member, Brittney Steverson who are modeling the way for us in terms of what great looks like for using data and tools to direct our efforts.

Do you know how many unique companies you have to call to secure a meeting? Do you know how many touchpoints need to reach one company? Do you know your closing ratio? We all should. Work smarter. Use your tools, go all in on measuring your output, and let's see the results grow from understanding your unique metrics and holding yourself accountable to hitting them.

?Everything?is a numbers game- not necessarily in quality or quantity- but it's about?knowing?your?numbers.?

Let's RIDE.

This is exactly why I love cycling! It's data driven, uber-quantifiable, and gives me metrics for improvement. The problem is I detest doing my FTP test, which is the worst 60 minute workout of my life, and I try to do it once a quarter... Numbers don't lie though! #facethemusic #cantcheatthegrind
