What are fats?
Fats are nutrients that give us energy, they help in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins A,D,E, & K.
Types of fats
There are four main types of fats and oils.?
- Saturated fats:? such as butter, lard (pig fat), meat fats and coconut oil tend to be solid at room temperature
- Monounsaturated oils:? like olive oil and canola oil tend to be liquid at room temperature but become solid when refrigerated
- Polyunsaturated oils like soybean oil, cotton seed oil, corn oil and
safflower oil are liquid even when refrigerated
- Partially hydrogenated fats (trans fat) are liquid seed oils that have undergone an industrial process to make them hard.
How to incorporate these oils into your daily regime
For Cooking
- Butter
- Tallow from beef
- lard from pork
- chicken, goose & duck fat
- Coconut, palm, & palm kernel oil
- Ghee
For Salad:
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Cold pressed sesame & peanut oil?
- Expeller - pressed flaxseed oil (in small quantity)
Newfangled fats can cause cancer, heart disease, immune system dysfunction, sterility, learning disabilities, growth problems and osteoporosis
- All hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils
- Industrially processed liquid oils such as soy, corn, safflower, cottonseed and canola
- Fats and oils (especially vegetable oils) heated to very high temperatures in?
???processing and frying.
