“People don’t buy what you do…they buy why you do it” – Simon Sinek, author & motivational speaker

The same goes for yourself. You will not be fully bought into a change in your life if you aren’t crystal clear on why you’re trying to implement it.

Whether it’s a change in your diet, sleep schedule, workout routine, the people you spend time with or replacing bad habits with good ones.

All major behavioral changes are hard as hell to fully incorporate into your life. Some will come close to breaking you. Some will frustrate you. Essentially, no change is comfortable, especially if you’re trying to break a habit that you’ve done for years.

Have you done ever become so excited by making a change in your life and were dead set with your commitment? Then a week into it, you begin to question it heavily, constantly reasoning why you shouldn’t stick with the change, constantly seeking that old state of comfort.

This is normal. But the key to winning your internal battle with a big change in your life is by truly knowing why you are putting yourself through the pain of becoming better.

>>> You must know WHY <<<

You why for doing something will carry you through all the negative thoughts that will swarm your mind, including the downward pull from those close to you because they themselves are afraid of change, and seeing you try to become better makes them too uncomfortable.

I remember when I first committed to making reading a huge part of my life. I didn’t like it and never looked forward to it.

The influence from others to stop reading was also very apparent, especially from my father. He would constantly say I was being brainwashed by the self-development books that I was reading, and he still does so today.

I read because I want to grow my mind, I want to attract successful relationships and experiences in my life. My old ways didn’t make my success last, so I’ve resorted to reading to help me get better and I believe that the books I’ve read have already helped me change so much, and it’s only the beginning…

That is my why for this one change.

What change are you trying to implement into your life?

Whatever it is, first understand WHY you’re making it. This reason will be your fuel during the times that you want to give up and revert to your old ways.

Why do you want to:

1.      Lose weight?

2.      Eat healthier?

3.      Make more money?

4.      Meet new friends?

5.      Start that business you’ve already thought of?

6.      Wake up earlier?

7.      Create better thoughts in your mind?

David Goggins used his ‘why’ to push through the insane physical challenges that he put himself through, including the Navy SEAL Hell Week 3 times and running a 100-mile race with only a few days to prepare!

From what I understand, he credits most of his ability of enduring pain to his why. It’s his lifeline when times get tough during a challenge in his life.

>>> He always asks himself: “why am I here?” <<<

His fuel will be the same for you.

Know your why before you begin to change yourself.

Go beat yourself. Keep going.

Hope this helps.
