Know what you don't know

As consultants, it is rare that we are brought into an already high performing and collaborative team only to help them improve their culture even more. More typical are the organizations that lack team cohesion and connection, and their performance suffers as a result of it. As we kick off our work with a large pharmaceutical client who wants to elevate an already strong team culture, it reinforces that high performing teams only know one thing - high performance - and that it takes consistent work and a commitment to learning to make sure that mentality and behavior remains true through adversity.
Adam Grant says it best: "In learning cultures, the norm is for people to know what they don't know, doubt their existing practices, and stay curious about new routines to try out. Evidence shows that in learning cultures, organizations innovate more and make fewer mistakes."
We can all agree that our existing practices around work, team connection, and productive collaboration were challenged this past year when remote work became the norm. Lets keep learning so that we can set new and even BETTER norms as we enter this new phase of hybrid work.
We invite you to take SHIFT's Return to Office Survey to keep learning from your people and adapting to whatever this post-pandemic work world may look like. As a leader, this is your opportunity to get things right for your people. Lets talk through your approach so that you feel nothing but confident and excited about the road ahead. 3 å¹´Great insights, Carly! There certainly was a steady theme during our high-performance culture interviews. Folks kept remarking, "I'm suprised this team is investing in listenging, learning, and the desire to make the great culture even better. I can think of other teams that really need to do this work!" Or, the sentiment that "just like I have to keep 'dating' my wife after 20+ years of marriage, we have to keep recruiting our current employees" and showing them we value them and their contributions. Knowing what we don't know makes that circle a bit smaller and our people a lot better!
