Know Stance...
Last week, I tried an experiment (go there to play along).
This week, let's think about how you and I can make sure we do less in order to become even more productive with this ONE actionable tip.
The Problem:?I Do SO MANY Different Things
This week, imagine you and I are sitting in traffic.
Where are we? Where are we heading?
ME: "Hey, how are you?"
YOU: "I do SO MANY different things, it's hard to explain."
When was the last time you were asked, "What do you do for a living?"
If you're like me, sometimes that's hard to answer.
Or.
You've asked that question and it went down into a veritable rabbit hole. With no escape.
Why?
Because, there are soooo many ways to answer that question.
Or.
Are there really sooooo many ways to answer that question?
Really?
The Actionable Tip: Know Stance
Before you answer that question, think about the "stance" you are taking in order to answer that question to the person who is asking you this question.
How can you do that?
In the comments below, please share?ONE?actionable tip to help others answer this question in order to do less and become more productive.
So.
"What do you do?"

6 个月I'm a fan of Seth Godin’s approach to answering this question - it should be about storytelling, focusing on purpose and impact rather than just a job title.? For me, that sounds like this: "I work with healthcare leaders to solve complex problems, so they can focus on providing better patient care." This approach inevitably leads to a question around how I do that, which I frame depending on who I am speaking with.

6 个月Hmm, I'm caught on "Are there really sooooo many ways to answer that question?" My take is not really. For me it's meeting people and the teams they are part of "where they are." Work with them, understand their lives - in/out of work. Then we periodically reflect and improve, aka Reinvent.. ??
The Agile Educator ?? Think big, start small.
6 个月For me, it's a matter of framing: While I have learned and impacted [share a couple of the many hats, roles, and/or workplaces], I focus my energy on [skill, role, value provided in x industry/workplace] now, followed by curiosity about them. I'm trying to get better about not only asking about work. I often pair, "what do you do?" with "what do you love to do?" acknowledging that we are more than what we do for a living. ??
