Level 2 — Requires 208V Power Source
Level 2 chargers are the standard you’ll find when searching for an EV charger available to the public, as they are cheaper and require less power. They typically give 10-30 miles of range per hour of charging time. They’re often found in places with longer dwell times, such as apartments/condos, retail and hospitality spaces, healthcare facilities, parking garages, etc. This charger type is physically smaller and lighter than its faster counterpart.

Level 3 — Direct Current (DC)
Level 3 chargers, commonly called DC fast chargers, require a 480V power source to operate and provide the most drive time. These chargers typically give a range of 150-350+ per hour of charging time and are found in busy areas where people come and go at a faster pace. They are also found in standard commercial areas such as parking garages, retail spaces, and city streets.
There are significant differences between the two charger levels, including, but not limited to, their charging speed/range, physical size, and power requirements on-site. While some properties are comfortable with utilizing a Level 2 208V charger, others with unique needs that require faster charging might become frustrated with the lower output in a Level 2. The decision also depends on whether the site is equipped for a high-output charger or will need additional work before your provider can install it.
