Part 2 : Answering “How do I?”
How to get started and where to turn for assistance.
Define a Mission:
Set your organization’s Goal for and Define the Mission to become a Data-Driven Culture.
Cast Vision:
Outline the Executive Vision for what it means to be a Data-Driven Culture and Organization.
Department Level Stories:
- Craft Story: For each department, create a Story of how Good Data can impact the department. Each story should support the Data-Driven Culture mission and vision.
- Meeting Leadership: Meet with each department head (1 on One) and share the story. Win them over to the concept of a Data-Driven Culture.
- Empower Leadership: Empower Them to share The Story and even develop additional stories. Allow them the freedom to define and cast Vision for their department and teams. They need to champion the Culture Shift for their department.
Communication:
Start an internal communication campaign regarding Data Quality, Automation and the Vision of a Data-Driven Organization.
Roadshow / Evangelize:
Create webinars for departments to participate and learn about Data and how they can use data, data tools and automation to benefit their daily activities and their fellow department personnel.
Note: Encourage them to participate in Data Education Classes.
Daily Data Workshops:
Create a series of work shops where participants can learn basic data analysis, an introduction to data tools and helping them create their first Data Cleanup and Automation workflow.
Note: We are not suggesting retooling your team and create data analysts all over the organization. In-fact, quite the opposite. We believe by educating participants about Data and how clean data can help their daily job, will empower them to clean up and keep their data clean. It commonly also encourages them to explore their data and consider how their data can improve their daily job and overall career. This should assist them in properly crafting and defining requests of your Data Analysis Team for assistance.
- Warning: Workshops should not be conducted by internal data expert resources. Leveraging Internal Resources, commonly creates a conflict and can easily over burden the data expert with ongoing questions and premature requests for assistance. Especially days and weeks after the workshop has concluded.
- Purpose of Workshop: The point of the Workshops, is to show participants how clean data can provide them with less stress, more opportunity and improve visibility to their job, department and organization.
- Recommendation: We recommend that you leverage a service like EEI’s Data Advisory Service to develop and conduct Workshops.
Empower Data-Driven Culture:
Encourage each employee to start reviewing their personal, team and department’s data. Consider how data cleanup, reporting, Business Intelligence and Automation can help them do their job more effectively. Provide Department Head with resources and incentives to inspire their teams and personnel.
