Knepp Castle Estate for Brandeins
Olivier Hess
I'm an Advertising, Corporate & Editorial photographer/filmmaker working between London & Frankfurt. I specialise in people, environments & storytelling, working with a small team of skilled people worldwide.
This time last year, shortly after the first lockdown had been lifted in the UK, Brandeins commissioned us to spend a day at Knepp Castle in Sussex – for a photo essay about the conservation pioneers Isabella Tree (author of ‘Wilding’: Return of Nature to a British Farm) and her husband Charlie Burrell. After they abandoned traditional industrial farming methods 20 years ago, nature has now taken over their 3500 acre estate. Visitors can explore the grounds. The safari centre runs wildlife tours and there is a fabulous shop with home made products. After a 3-month national and international travel ban, it felt like being on holiday abroad for the day. Life as we knew it had restarted, if only for a short time.
