Klinikum Neuk?lln - It is time to say good bye… and thank you!
Jan Witte MD
Clinical Research I Medical and Public Affairs - Hematology and Oncology, Infectious diseases
After almost a decade at the #Vivantes Klinikum Neuk?lln, Berlin, the time has come for my to look for new challenges. During my time in Neuk?lln I have seen the transformation of my department into one of Berlin’s biggest Hematology and Oncology department. The introduction of stem cell transplantation and the opening of a our 14 bed palliative care ward, as well as the certification process as a German Cancer Center by the German Society of Hematology and Oncology (#DGHO) where some of the miles stones. The steadily increasing number of international patients also shows our growing reputation across borders.
Especially the development of our clinical trail program makes me proud. I was honored to lead our research team for several years. It gave us the chance to be at the forefront of immunotherapy and targeted treatment. Thank you to all the patients who participated in our clinical trails.
I also have to thank the various departments in which I received my medical training. Working at Germany’s biggest Emergency room in Neuk?lln was certainly a unique experience. You work twice a hard and learn three times faster there. My respect to the whole ER team for doing a great job there every night and day. Also my time at the cardiology lead ICU, the gastroenterology and infectious disease units boosted my knowledge in internal medicine.
Thank you to all my colleges. Even in a hospital of 1.200 beds and 120.000 outpatients, the best and fastest progress to your patients it due to your personal contacts.
My biggest thanks and respect goes out to our nurses. The best treatment protocol is doomed to fail without the love and care they provide. Thank you and keep up the good work, even under the increasing financial pressure of our health care system.
As much as I am looking forward to my new challenges, leaving Neuk?lln was a hard decision and I will certainly miss it.
