You finally know what you want and you are ready to go after it. Unfortunately, other people want it to. You didn't think it would be EASY, did you? No, it takes work. Hard work. You need to commit and go all in. First step - shamelessly commit.
If I only knew this during backyard wiffleball, I would have jumped up and down to get picked first. Now I know someone else wants what I have, but I won't wait around waiting to get picked,
We recently watched a YouTube video from entrepreneur Seth Godin that got us thinking about this. Yes, the opportunity of a lifetime is to pick yourself. In 2018, we quit waiting to get picked, quit waiting for someone to give us permission; quit waiting for someone to say we are officially qualified. We pick US! It doesn't mean we are cocky or conceited freelancers. We are not picking each other in a self-absorbed, all style no substance way. We pick us in a way that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and selflessness. It means that we have said, we know how to do something and we are doing it. If you want to do it with us, raise your hand. If not, we have enough right here to do it.

When you get into the office today, look around at your colleagues. Study how they work, how they break, how they talk to each other. There is not a talent shortage. But are they getting noticed? If not, then there is a ton of talent that is going unrecognized. Now ask yourself, why?
Here's a clue - are you single-mindedly obsessed with sharing your accomplishments with those who have helped you? About helping others raise their game? About voicing your opinion in meetings? About getting positive attention? About working with someone who motivates you to raise your game because they are smarter than you. If the answer is no, what are you waiting for? Someone to come tell you are promoted for your qualifications? Someone to notice your worth? You need to notice YOU first.
Okay, you are too busy working to self-promote? Fine - pair with someone who can promote you. Just stop waiting, It's Day 8 already. Don't wait to lose another week.
Stop waiting. Pick you.
