The European Union's new Battery Regulation 2023/1542, which takes effect this month (February 2024), is introducing a significant shift for battery manufacturers, battery importers and their supply chains.

This regulation not only sets stringent standards for battery production and disposal but also mandates carbon footprint calculations, recycled content declarations and due diligence policies.

Businesses that manufacture or import batteries in the European Union will need to adhere to stricter standards in terms of material use, recycling targets, and labeling.

Vin?otte (member of Kiwa Group) is offering comprehensive support to businesses navigating the new EU Battery Regulation. This includes helping businesses assess their compliance and ensure their batteries meet the new requirements.

2. UK Introduces Security Regime for Connectable Products

The UK has introduced a new cybersecurity regime under delegated legislation which will apply to consumer connectable products from April 2024. As of this date, manufacturers of connectable products within the UK will be obligated to adhere to a set of minimum security requirements mandated by the new legislation.

These minimum security requirements are based on the UK’s Code of Practice for Consumer IoT security. This regime will also ensure other businesses in the supply chains of these products to play their role in preventing insecure products from being sold to UK consumers and businesses.
