Usually, we talk about the newest technology on here but today we are going to focus on being present and enjoying the basic quality of life.
A friend of mine reached out and told me about his new program for kids which just blew me away. James Fisher-Davis, an amazing human being located in North Carolina with one of the most genuine hearts a person can have. Started EquilibriumUp a non-profit that focuses on teaching and training first responders in a very unique and successful professional and personal development program. This program provides skills that enhance interaction with fellow first responders and the public. A program that became well-received by many of the local responders in the area.
Kits For Kids
James shared with me his newest project Kits for Kids (First Responder's Kits for Kids (K4K) Program). A program that gives first responders little kits full of activities and toys that can be given to kids who have seen trauma. "Something to help take their mind off of everything going on," James told me. From sheets that kids can draw on, to fidget spinners, and little toys and coloring books these kits have already made it into the hands of many children in need.
"The K4K program will provide kits/units to kids dealing with trauma, stress, anxiety, and various mental episodes due to environment or various circumstances. Research suggests that addressing these issues early will result in mental and physical well-being in the future. (K4K) is another tool designed to assist our youngest and most vulnerable community members. It exemplifies the tenet that “Police are the Public and the Public are the Police”.
"The desire to be better today than yesterday and better tomorrow than today. That begins with helping other people elevate (HOPE)." - James Fisher-Davis
James and his partner Kevin Gatlin have been working hard with the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police (NCACP), WYTV7, various law enforcement departments, and other community stakeholders to help further the program. They said that the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police (NCACP) has been a large supporter because the program is first responder-driven.
"Our goal is to change the narrative and ameliorate the relationships between all first responders and communities. We intend to extend this program throughout the United States."

How to Help
K4K has been well received. The most pressing need is donors/sponsors for the program. Although any departments are willing to utilize their limited budgets the idea is to make this a community endeavor. Allowing corporations and businesses to donate these kits to first responders will entice other community members to explore how they may assist in the success of K4K.
