Kintsukuroi: Metaphor for 2019

Kintsukuroi: Metaphor for 2019

I originally posted this at the beginning of 2016...little did I know how appropriate it would be for my personal journey. I'm thinking we can all use a bit of this in 2019 as well.

To my broken yet beautiful brothers and sisters in recovery. Here is my metaphorical gift to you all to begin 2019.

Since ancient times, when the Japanese mend broken objects, rather than attempting to restore them to their previously unsullied state, they instead aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when an object has suffered profound damage and survives, it becomes even more beautiful and valuable for having been broken in the first place. They enhance and celebrate the history and the flaws of a thing because they believe that there in the IMPERFECTION...lies UTTER PERFECTION -- my mantra for 2019 is this:

"Kintsukuroi: To repair with gold."

May we celebrate and honor our fractures, cracks, and flaws...and may we ALL continue to be mended beautifully.

Both visually and in words, a lovely recovery metaphor.

Lovely analogy..... I have always been told that folks who are in Recovery are special souls who are more evolved than the rest of us, because of the work they have done in Recovery....
