Kingsbarns Golf Links – an appreciation of a truly world class golf course.
Hi Everyone
In the 16 years I owned and ran Morton Golf Holidays I must have been asked by clients a thousand times “what is your favourite course”!! That is a hard question to answer when you consider I started golfing well over 50 years ago and have played 360 courses. However, I can say with no hesitation Kingsbarns is right up there and in my top 5. You have to remember the competition is stiff as also in there would be the Old Course, Muirfield, Carnoustie and Gleneagles – and I’d have to also give mention to Auchterarder Golf Club where I learned to play – ok so my Top 5 just became my Top 6. So what makes Kingsbarns so special – let’s see – here is a list for starters – it is one of the best links courses anywhere in the world, you can see the sea from every hole so the scenery is wonderful, it is always in fantastic condition, it has a great variety of holes with the 15th being truly iconic, the customer service is world class, the clubhouse is perfect and the staff are friendly and super-efficient! Actually, now I look at it – that’s not a bad list. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to literally have received thousands of pieces of feedback from delighted clients and an amazingly high percentage have told me Kingsbarns was there favourite course on their visit to Scotland – and for all of the reasons I just stated. So in these tough times for us all I am hoping when you read these words and look at the brilliant images it may “whet your appetite” to make you want to ask us to add Kingsbarns to your itinerary next time you come to Scotland.
Here are some facts you may or may not know about Kingsbarns – although the present world class links opened for play in 2000 golf was first played on the site pre 1800 (1793 golf was first mentioned)! The golf course has hosted the Alfred Dunhill Championship along with the Old Course and Carnoustie since 2001. The course record is held by US player Peter Uihlein (2013) who actually had a putt on the last for a 59! Michael Phelps the US swimmer playing in the Dunhill holed a putt of 153 feet at the 6th hole – believed to be the longest putt ever to be caught by television cameras. And finally, to give an idea of just how beautiful the golf course is both Michelle Wie and Graeme McDowell have compared Kingsbarns to Pebble Beach which is a nice accolade indeed.
