Have you ever experienced someone showering you with unwavering support, only to realize that their enthusiasm dwindles once their personal interests are met? Or have you ever experienced someone becoming your biggest fan on LinkedIn, consistently liking and commenting on your every post, proclaiming you as their mentor, only to mysteriously vanish once their ulterior goal is fulfilled? These individuals, akin to corporate cheerleaders, tend to cheer for you not out of genuine appreciation but with a specific motive in mind.
It's not uncommon to encounter individuals who seem to be your biggest fans, constantly liking and commenting on your every move, until their motives are revealed. These individuals can be likened to cheerleaders in the world of sports, but in the corporate arena, their cheers may come with an agenda.
Much like a sports team's cheerleaders who are paid by organizers to rally support for the team or players, these corporate cheerleaders have their own personal agendas. They may cheer for you, take your name, and even go as far as calling you their mentor or coach, all with the hope that their association with you will lead to some personal gain.
It's important to differentiate between those who genuinely appreciate your actions without any hidden agenda and those who are merely cheering for personal benefits. True cheerleaders in the professional world are individuals who offer support and encouragement without any ulterior motives. They appreciate your efforts sincerely and are committed to seeing you succeed.
On the flip side, fake cheerleaders in the corporate realm may be quick to cheer when their personal agenda aligns with your success, but their commitment is superficial. Once their objectives are fulfilled or when they realised that your utility value is declined in their lives, their cheers may fade away, leaving you wondering about the authenticity of their support.
It's crucial to identify and appreciate the genuine cheerleaders – those who support you for the sake of your success, without expecting anything in return. These are the individuals who contribute positively to the workplace environment, fostering a sense of collaboration and camaraderie.
While the concept of corporate cheerleaders may seem amusing, it serves as a reminder to be discerning about the motivations behind the support we receive. In a world where networking and professional relationships play a significant role, recognizing sincere cheerleaders from those with hidden agendas can be instrumental in building a successful and trustworthy professional network.
Value and appreciate those who cheer for you genuinely in the corporate world. These are the individuals who contribute positively to your journey without expecting anything in return. Identify and surround yourself with sincere supporters, as they can play a pivotal role in your career growth and success.
