King David
For my morning devotions I have been reading in 2 Samuel about the life of King David. David was the second king in Israel following King Saul. David made some colossal mistakes in his life and the Bible is graphic on what his mistakes were, and what they cost King David.
Here’s what’s caught my attention today, with all of King David’s faults and failures that we read, he was still known as ‘a man after God’s own heart’. Isn’t that amazing? He committed adultery and murder, had his household turned upside down with one scandal after another, yet he is known as one of the key characters in the entire Bible.
Here’s my point: God’s forgiveness is very real and very available. It was King David who wrote most of the Book of Psalms. Psalm 51 gives us a glimpse of David’s heart when he writes, “Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
Take it from a friend who has had his fair share of self-created problems, that same forgiveness that King David experienced, and that forgiveness that I have experienced, is also available to you. God loves you very much and He wants to restore you to Himself. That my friends is a promise to hold onto.
