Kindness is a reflection of your soul

Kindness is a reflection of your soul

The Sanskrit term atman (True Self)is often translated as “soul” but it turns out that atman emerges when the brain is resting extremely efficiently even outside of meditation practice (Transcendental Meditation specifically). When a low-noise sense-of-self [a pure “I am”] emerges outside of meditation due to regular practice alternated with normal activity, when it becomes sufficiently low-noise and stable that it is found at all times, even during deep sleep, this is called atman.

A list of many of the studies that have been done on the topics of TM, samadhi/pure consciousness and enlightenment can be found here. As part of the studies on enlightenment via TM, researchers found 17 subjects (average meditation, etc experience 16,000 hours) who were reporting at least having a pure sense-of-self continuously for at least a year, and asked them to "describe yourself" (see table 3 of psychological correlates study), and these were some of the responses: We ordinarily think my self as this age; this color of hair; these hobbies . . . my experience is that my Self is a lot larger than that. It's immeasurably vast. . . on a physical level. It is not just restricted to this physical environment

It's the ‘‘I am-ness.’’ It's my Being. There's just a channel underneath that's just underlying everything. It's my essence there and it just doesn't stop where I stop. . . by ‘‘I,’’ I mean this 5 ft. 2 person that moves around here and there. I look out and see this beautiful divine Intelligence. . . you could say in the sky, in the tree, but really being expressed through these things. . . and these are my Self. I experience myself as being without edges or content. . . beyond the universe. . . all-pervading, and being absolutely thrilled, absolutely delighted with every motion that my body makes. With everything that my eyes see, my ears hear, my nose smells. There's a delight in the sense that I am able to penetrate that. My consciousness, my intelligence pervades everything I see, feel and think

When I say ’’I’’ that's the Self. There's a quality that is so pervasive about the Self that I'm quite sure that the ‘‘I’’ is the same ‘‘I’’ as everyone else's ‘‘I.’’ Not in terms of what follows right after. I am tall, I am short, I am fat, I am this, I am that. But the ‘‘I’’ part. The ‘‘I am’’ part is the same ‘‘I am’’ for you and me. When we don't like something or don't want something, that not wanting becomes very much a part of our thought process. And the more we think about something, the more the thoughts bombard us with feelings, and the more the feelings, the more the passion and attraction causes action in us. Nothing will happen if we stop the thought process or the feeling process.

Everything happens not because of attraction but because of action. Therefore, on the spiritual path, we are taught to calm the mind, to tame the monkey mind and make it a monk. When there is no yelling and no yearning of the mind, when we are calm, then we are in a state of consciousness. In the state of consciousness we experience bliss. We don't attract things that we don't like anymore, because we have killed the mind, the rascal. Mind and its behavior are collective clusters of what you've seen, came through, experienced so far. these can be called as data. The data are visualized in dream/memory through projections.

Therefore, our mind has got nothing to do with our soul (if any) because it is programmed by nature in such a way that it works on the basis of collective information. I strongly believe that our activity which we perform has a strong influence of our sub-conscious brain, whose equation is always unknown. According to eastern spiritual beliefs their are 2 aspects which are your body and your spirit. The same is true for the bible. The body is the dust of the earth and God's breath gave it life. Which is again your spirit.

My studying led me to believe that a soul is an empty container waiting to be filled. You spirit fills it. So to me your mind reflects on your soul. Everything you take in like food, speech, music, happiness, etc. and what you keep in like your thoughts molds your soul or your body. The problem is today the world wants you to shut your spirit off. There is right and wrong in this world and it is our responsibility to to spread the truth. But if we follow the world and shut off what we know is right and wrong then your mind cannot reflect your spirit because you have separated them.

If you listen to your spirit or soul it is reflected in your mind and body. If you ignore it and listen to the world it cannot be reflected because it is separate from you. The soul operates the body through Antahkaran. Mind's operation is conscious. That is, what we are aware. We can say it is voluntary. Other involuntary functions are operated by subconscious mind. Mind has no control over it. Operating face muscles are involuntary. For example somebody during talking purposely he can change the truth and talk. (Mind’s function). Whereas his face muscles will not change against the truth. It will exhibit only the truth.( Subconscious function). Above example is for common people only, not for actors etc.

In fact they are interconnected. Even with the knowledge of a conscious that we do know we are limited with science. As far as having a soul, secular science cannot prove we have one. Often it is conceived as morality. But morality must be given down, from something else. And we know that to be true then do people who are immoral not have a soul? Which surely cannot be true. The only known description of a soul is written in the bible. In which we are created in the image of God. Separate from animals. That is about the closest description to a soul that we have and an understanding of a soul. Om Shanti
