KINDNESS: IS IT MISSING TODAY?
Last week, a small news item probably escaped your radar. It wasn’t about the US economy or the China trade war. Or, a certain President.
It was about a very special kid. One that any parent would be proud of. I know I would be.
His name is Diesel Pippert. He’s a 12-year-old seventh-grader from Huron County, Ohio, who lives on a farm where he and his family raise pigs. Very big pigs.
Yes, lots of kids could meet that description. But, read on.
You see, Diesel heard about a boy in Tennessee who donated $11,000 from the sale of the pig he raised to a children’s hospital in Memphis. Being naturally competitive, that got Diesel thinking; he figured he could do one better.
So Diesel decided to sell his own prized pig in an upcoming livestock auction. Then he spread the word about his plan.
The bidding reached $15,000 before the auctioneer slammed the gavel down ‘Sold!’ on Diesel's porker, proving that a little marketing savvy and a pinch of competitiveness can work wonders.
You can probably guess the rest of the story: Diesel donated the entire $15,000 to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Every dime of it.
Needless to say, the folks at St. Jude’s were thrilled. A hospital spokesperson said, "His (Diesel’s) kindness demonstrates that age does not limit kids from fundraising and making a difference in the lives of other children battling cancer at St. Jude."
So, no… kindness isn’t missing these days. Maybe a little hard to find, but if you are willing to look for it, you’ll find it.
On this Labor Day weekend, let's raise one to Diesel Pippert! One pretty smart and very kind kid.
