To many of us, the COVID-19 pandemic makes us feel helpless and alone. With thousands dead, major global health, and significant financial implications, the coronavirus, if nothing else, is scary. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), it may be only a matter of time until we see outbreaks everywhere.
Not to diminish the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic but most of us don’t understand the scale of the impact on our world.
We fear what we don’t understand. And what we fear, we seek to control.
Within my small community, we have already had panic buying of everything from toilet paper to ibuprofen. At our local Costco, we even had a woman seriously injured from the panic that ensued.
Fear is OK. Fear is natural. We’re all afraid, with even the experts admitting that there is a huge number of things about this outbreak that we just don’t know yet.
Just don’t let the fear control you.
I’m not an epidemiologist. I’m not a doctor. I don’t make policy.
I’ve seen a lot of people on the internet without any qualifications telling people what to do about the virus or save the economy.
I’m doing my best to continue to follow the WHO and CDC recommendations.
I’m not asking anyone to do anything, take any particular precautions, or make any policy recommendations.
If you want any additional information on the COVID-19 outbreak, I attached a link below to the Center for Disease Control.
But I’m asking something additional of myself today.
I understand that family, friends, coworkers, and the rest of the world are under a tremendous amount of stress this week. Particularly, the isolation of social distancing policy combined with the fear of the moment.
Therefore, I want to do what I can in my small circle to be as kind as possible to those around me.
If your sad, scared or feel alone please reach out to someone. Reaching out electronically or on the phone to those you love can make a huge difference.
You’re not alone and you are loved. Be kind :)
