"Kim Jong-Un Rule" in Bengal? Union Minister's Shocking Claim Amid ED Attack

New Delhi: A political firestorm engulfed West Bengal on Friday after a team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was attacked and its vehicles damaged in the state's North 24 Parganas district. Union Minister Giriraj Singh seized the opportunity, launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and drawing a controversial parallel to North Korea's authoritarian regime.

"There is nothing like democracy in West Bengal. There seems to be a Kim Jong-Un government there," Singh declared to reporters, further alleging a complete absence of democratic principles under Banerjee's leadership.

The incident occurred when the ED arrived to raid the houses of TMC functionaries Shahjahan Sheikh and Shankar Adhya, along with their relatives, in connection with an alleged ration scam. Local TMC members and supporters reportedly surrounded and obstructed the officials, leading to a scuffle and damage to ED vehicles.

West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose condemned the attack, terming it "alarming, deplorable, and a ghastly incident." He warned that the state government's failure to uphold its basic duty regarding law and order could invite intervention through constitutional means.

Adding to the political drama, the Congress party, an ally of TMC in the INDIA bloc, surprisingly joined the chorus of denunciations. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhary called for President's rule in Bengal, claiming a complete breakdown of law and order and even expressing the grim possibility of official murders under TMC rule.

TMC, however, remained defiant, dismissing Choudhary as a "BJP agent" and deflecting blame for the incident. BJP state chief Sukanta Majumdar countered by demanding an NIA probe into the attack, further escalating the political tension.

With upcoming elections in sight, the attack on the ED and the subsequent reactions have thrown West Bengal into the center of a fierce political whirlwind. As investigations unfold and accusations fly, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the state's political landscape and the upcoming electoral battle.
