Kilombero Sugar Company Limited Responds to Current Country Flood Crisis with Humanitarian Aid

Kilombero, Morogoro Kilombero Sugar Company Limited has announced its participation in providing humanitarian assistance to the Kilombero District community, which has been severely impacted by the recent flooding events across the country following months of heavy rainfall.

The relief initiative took place at the Kilombero District Commissioner's office, where the company contributed six tonnes of essential food items, including beans, corn flour, and rice. This donation is set to assist over 500 households devastated by the floods.

During the handover of the donation, valued at 15 million Tanzanian Shillings, Mr. Victor Byemelwa , Communications and Stakeholder Relations Manager for Kilombero Sugar Company Limited Sugar Company, stated that the aid is part of the company's Disaster Relief Program. "Kilombero Sugar is committed to the welfare of our community. Today's donation reflects our values of responsiveness and integrity. By supporting more than 500 families, we are addressing the immediate needs of those experiencing hardship," Mr. Byemelwa expressed.

Additionally, Mr. Byemelwa urged other stakeholders to consolidate efforts with the government's initiative to aid communities affected by the recent floods, exacerbated by the El Ni?o phenomenon. He emphasized the importance of collective action against climate change and reaffirmed Kilombero Sugar Company's dedication to environmental conservation.

Hon. Mr. Dunstan Kyobya , Kilombero District Commissioner, acknowledged the timely nature of the support: "Our community has been hard-hit by the ongoing rains, and Kilombero Sugar Company's proactive contribution is deeply appreciated." He also recognized the synergy between the government and the private sector in addressing critical issues and called for continued collaboration.

Mr. Kyobya disclosed that the number of affected households reaches 1,500, with Mlimba District Council particularly suffering, especially in areas such as Utengule and Masagati. He emphasized the urgency for aid as efforts are underway to restore infrastructure to its pre-disaster condition.

Mr. Hassan Abdalah, a local resident affected by the floods, shared his harrowing experience at the event: "The flood destroyed everything, leaving my family and me without shelter. The assistance we received from the government and organizations like Kilombero Sugar is invaluable in alleviating our suffering during this difficult time."

Kilombero Sugar Company has reaffirmed its commitment to the community by allocating resources to its Disaster Relief Program, intended to mitigate the effects of unforeseen disasters that may impact the regions it serves.
