Kiln for cement and the importance of temperature
The oven is the fundamental element for the manufacture of cement. It is constituted by a cylindrical steel tube, whose lengths vary between 130 and 197 ft, and its diameter between 10 and 20 ft, which inside has a lining with refractory materials (resistance to high temperature).
Inside the oven the temperature has to reach around 2700 or 2900° F, because the clinkerization reactions are around 2642° F. Clinker is a product with a shape of granules or small spheres, between 1/54 and 1 inch, formed from the incineration of limestone, clay and other minor components; Those granules, crushed and mixed with plaster and different additions, allow the different types of cement to be manufactured.
Precisely due to the parameter that must be reached to have an optimal Clinker, it is necessary to have a precise control of the temperature inside the kiln, as well as to guarantee that temperature is homogeneous throughout the rotary oven.
Here is where ECN can support you through your business partner VisionTir, because we have a Thermographic Vision System for Continuous Temperature Monitoring, based on high-resolution thermographic cameras and software that provides radiometric images in real time. Some applications are, but not limited, to measure the temperature inside reheating furnaces, rotary furnaces, coolers, incinerators and boilers, mainly in the mineral, steel, power generation and other industrial processes.
