Truth is a thing, often slippery and rare

Written or spoken, many do not dare

To use it as a tool, to communicate what's real

About subjects and events, and how we really feel

Instead we grow silent, and in groups we hide

Each day that passes, swallowing more of our pride

Conforming and fitting, too often comes first

Left in the dark, our need and our thirst

To be quenched by connecting, to who we are

A point in memory, getting ever so far

Out of our grasp, and of our reach

The truth we don’t do, yet manage to preach

See truth is a thing, you can speak or can live

And yourself it is critical, that truth you must give

About who you are, and what you will leave

The legacy of you, should not be reprieve

For the dreams or the change, you want to affect

A regret filled heart, upon a final reflect

Of what could have been done, different each day

If truth was the map, that guided your way

This shift will impact, small and then big

From the rubble of distraction, our purpose we’ll dig

So the challenge is this, to you the reader

Set an example of truth, and be a leader

Demand it from self, and all people of power

Even those, high above, in an ivory tower

One step at a time, but a big step indeed

Live your life with truth, is all I can plead
