The KIJHL (Kootenay International Junior Hockey League) seeks Junior A status.

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has applied to BC Hockey to have the league and its members reclassified to the Junior A level. The application was submitted following their annual general meeting in June. If approved, all 20 KIJHL teams would adopt new operating standards aimed at improving the player experience starting in the 2023/24 season. The decision to apply for Junior A status came after extensive consultations with minor hockey partners, receiving support from all four regional minor hockey districts and 19 minor hockey associations. The departure of the BCHL to independent hockey has created a void in sanctioned junior hockey programming in the province, and the KIJHL aims to fill that void by offering an affordable grassroots alternative. The transition to Junior A is expected to be seamless, as the KIJHL already has well-established programs in place. Player recruitment concerns are not anticipated, as the league has a history of sending players to college hockey. BC Hockey will vote on the application, and the KIJHL hopes for a decision in early July to implement the changes for the upcoming season. If successful in becoming Junior A, the KIJHL would work with the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) to be included in that league, potentially impacting future championships. The KIJHL's regular season is scheduled to start on September 22nd, with all 20 teams playing a 44-game schedule.

How does ACHA compare to NCAA D3 in terms of overall quality?

While it is generally acknowledged that NCAA D3 presents a higher level of competition, it is worth noting that certain ACHA D1 programs excel in their management and organization. Additionally, larger schools often boast greater overall resources, further enhancing their programs.
