Kid’s Savior

Kid’s Savior

Johan Kim harrowing journey started in January 2007. His country had turned into turmoil because of post-election violence. The tension heated to a boiling point between the Luo, Kalenjin, and the Kikuyu communities. The youths were on the rampage killing, looting and destroying property belonging to members of other tribes. They stormed into his house but luckily, they were his tribesmen. He had sheltered in his house twenty children from other communities whose parents had been murdered. They handpicked several children from the group and murdered them in cold blood. It was devastating to see the kids of his best friend being murdered because of tribal differences. He bargained to pay a small ransom to save the remaining children. With no money or resources left to care for the huge number of children, Johan set out to find a solution. With the help of well-wishers, he was able to conduct a small fundraising to start a home for orphans (Kid’s Joy). Today Kid’s Joy provides a safe, loving home to over 3,000 children.
