Kidpreneur Workshop in Chicago
On Sunday, Aug 9, 2020 Al-Tijaarat Al-Raabehah (Chicago Business Council) and Anjuman-e-Saifee Chicago hosted a "Kidpreneur Workshop" aimed at children between the ages of 11 and 17. The workshop focused on brainstorming business ideas, helping kids set effective goals, discuss financial literacy, solving problems, and developing confidence, leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
With laptops, tablets, notepads and a whole lot of enthusiasm, the group of 16 kids (average age was 13 years old, an equal mix of boys and girls) discussed everything from their skills and passions, to drafting a marketing and business budget plan, to how money works (average US household expense, concept of wages, etc). I presented the workshop and was fortunate to discuss, learn about, and share the thrills, passions and ideas of this dynamic group.
The business ideas were amazing and vibrant. They included artwork canvases, custom photography, video editing, artisan baking, fashion consultant, stock analyst, YouTube tutorial videos on anything, device setup, and more!
The workshop was held with social distancing, and state-mandated Covid-19 protocols in place at a member's backyard with outdoor screen projection. All kids had masks on. The workshop had a pizza lunch and namaaz break in between.
As a bonus, all kids were offered a $100 "Venture Seed Grant" each if they submit a one-page business plan by the end of August.
Special thanks to the parents who encouraged their children to attend and to the Chicago Business Council committee members for an amazing event!
