Last weekend I was coaching the Mrs India Contestants & walking the red carpet with them ... and this weekend my daughter walked the pink-carpet and took to the ramp at a children's fashion show organised by a toy store.?
Kiddo is 9 years old and she had seen all the pictures from the Mrs India event. She was fascinated by the glamour - all the superb pics of the glamourous women on the ramp in modern as well as party/traditional attire etc.?
So we took her to this children's toy store fashion show event. And now she is wiser :)?
The actual ramp walk was for about 10 seconds of course. What went behind and led to that 10-seconds is what she discovered yesterday.?
First there was a briefing of all the 20+ girls who were in that round (and there were 3 rounds with a total of 70+ girls across age groups).?
Then came the bit of practice on the actual ramp walk ... walk, pause, pose, look at the audience, walk, pause, twist-n-turn, walk, pause, look at the audience on the sides, walk, pause, turn, exit.?
And then came the hair styling followed by make-up where they had to sit idly. Considering the number of kids, the actual time for hair and makeup was short but even that seemed long to kiddo.?
And the WAIT ... each round was 20 kids so every kid had to wait until the hair and make-up was done for all kids ... and once they were done, they had to wait for the scheduled time for their ramp walk. The wait seemed endless to her (evident by the bored look on her face).?
And then the walk when she was all bright and all smiled and enjoying herself.?
We arrived at the venue at around 4.30 and we left at about 7 pm ... 3.5 hours of being in a place for a 10-second walk :)?
She enjoyed and she learned that a lot of time, effort and commitment goes into producing spectacular results which may seem like it all happened in a flash.?
I personally think the time spent was worth the lesson learnt.?

And so is our Life. Whether personal front or career or business. It is years of time, effort and commitment that lead to the moment where one becomes an overnight success.?
Its the classic bamboo story where you see no growth for several years, while you continue to care for it and provide water and nourishment, and then suddenly in a matter of weeks, the bamboo shoots high.?
If you are discouraged by the continuous effort you have been putting in month after month with no results or negligible results, don't lose hope entirely.?
I wouldn't say that just wait it out and let the rewards come in time. I would rather say, take a step back and evaluate what you are doing.?
Are you investing time and effort in the right action, right direction, right person, right place??
Take help from a friend, colleague, mentor, or coach to evaluate - they might be able to help you identify your blind spots.?
While it is great to be the Tortoise who is slow and steady towards the destination, its definitely better to be the Hare who is racing fast and steady to the destination ... and you definitely don't want to be either Hare or the Tortoise who is headed in the wrong direction or running on the wrong track.?
Transforming your life for success is possible and it takes time, effort and commitment in the right direction with the right guidance. It makes sense and saves a lot of wasted effort while at the same time increasing the chances of achieving your goals/dreams sooner. A mentor and/or coach can definitely help in doing so. And there is nothing wrong with seeking help to achieve success. Every large corporation seeks out consultants to grow and fix its problems or simply to help move forward at times.?
Transformation is also about getting unstruck - getting out of the glass walls and breaking through the glass ceilings. A good coach can guide you to chart your own path to success.?
