Kickstarter for the Book is Coming Soon + a Call for Stories

Hi all :)

Just a few quick things for you this week:

?? A Kickstarter Campaign for the Book is Coming Soon!

?? A sneak peek at the table of contents!

?? Call for sustainability success stories

? A new quote I love

Kickstarter Campaign for the Book is Coming Soon!

I’m about halfway done with the draft of “Your Guide to Climate Action: a small book for making a BIG impact”.

(It’s looking pretty awesome if I do say so myself. And early editors agree! My favorite response so far was an enthusiastic “It’s absolutely brilliant!” in a British accent.)

And I’m excited to let you know that you can be one of the few who can get a copy of the book months before it’s available anywhere else by supporting the upcoming Kickstarter campaign!

It will go live in late September or early October, so keep an eye out!

What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter’s mission is to help bring creative projects to life. It does this by serving as a platform for people to crowdfund projects they want to have and believe should exist in the world.

But it is not a GoFundMe or charity - when you financially support the project, you physically get something in return: in this case, you get the book! As well as other fun rewards if you so choose.

I like Kickstarter and have supported other people’s projects on it myself (3 books about climate and a collaborative board game about climate solutions!)

The last thing to know about Kickstarter is that it’s an all-or-nothing, time-constrained model. That means this campaign will only be three weeks long. And if the funding goal is achieved in that time, I get the funds to cover some of the book’s upfront costs, and you get the book! However, if the funding goal isn’t met by the deadline, everyone gets their money back.

This very public “success” or “failure” is extremely nerve-wracking. I’d love and greatly appreciate your support to make this campaign a success when the time comes!

I’ll dive into why I’m using Kickstarter next week but just wanted to put the campaign on your radar now. If you’d like, you can sign up ahead of time here and get notified the second the campaign launches!

Sneak Peek of the Book’s Table of Contents!

This isn’t finalized yet so I may add or remove a chapter, but this should give you a pretty good idea of what’s coming your way :)

(I’m working on chapter 13 right now!)

Call for sustainability success stories

If you have been involved with making your school, company, town, city, or state a leader in sustainability, I'd love to hear from you!! I want to hear the story of where your town, company, etc. started on its climate journey and how it got to where it is now. What were the key moments? Who made it happen and how? What advice do you have for others? There will be chapters on this in the book, so this is an opportunity to multiply the impact of your efforts by having other people learn from your experience and follow in your town’s, company’s, etc. footsteps where it's wise to do so :)

Also, let me know if there’s anyone who you think I should talk to for this kind of story!

I’ll end with a quote I loved from one of the books I’m currently reading for research on our power to change the systems around us. The book is called “Fluke”:

"It's time to adjust our lenses of how we see ourselves in the world. Our chaotic, intertwined existence reveals a potent, astonishing fact: We control nothing, but influence everything." - Brian Klaas

Much love,

Ryan

P.S. I will keep publishing the newsletter here on LinkedIn for some time, but I would love it if you subscribed to the newsletter on substack. It's free and I believe it will be better for both you and me going forward - thank you!

Congratulations Ryan!! Planet Earth is in dire need.

I have been following your drive for almost 3 years, thanks for keep moving forward on this : ) There was a turning year for me as well, when I truly got the meaning of climate change impact and was aware on how to live sustainably. There is no perfection, but at least we start! Cheer up ??
