How to Secure Your Dream Internship

1. Start Early and Be Prepared: In Ireland, companies often open applications in September and close in January or February. At Ethos Engineering, our intern applications open in October, and you must be quick as spaces fill quickly!
2. Craft a Tailored CV and Cover Letter: Highlight relevant skills and experiences, especially in college or any relevant engineering projects. Your cover letter should complement your CV by expressing your personality, enthusiasm, and why you’re a great fit for the company.
3. Avoid Common Pitfalls: Don’t wait until the last minute to apply, and don’t send out a generic CV, tailor it to each role. Also, don't limit yourself, apply widely to improve your chances.
4. Leverage Career Fairs and Networking: Research companies attending career fairs and prepare accordingly. Network with classmates, lecturers, and industry professionals as personal referrals can be a game-changer.
5. Ace the Interview: Research the company and be ready to align your skills with their needs. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) for behavioural questions and don't forget to show enthusiasm and ask thoughtful questions about the company’s culture and projects.
