Khiza at Ethereum Rio
At the end of March, we attended our first web3-focused event as Khiza: Ethereum Rio. There, we had contact with several professionals and interesting projects - we selected five topics that were discussed in the lectures and workshops we saw there, but were also present in the hallway conversations and networking we did.
- Brazil is crypto
Even with arguments that the legislation regarding crypto assets in Brazil could be better, the fact is that it is considered more friendly than the ones of countries like the United States, China, and Russia.
Furthermore, conversations about the Digital Real (to be used especially by financial institutions) and the Tokenized Real (this one, aimed at day-to-day transactions, by individuals) show that the projects are robust and that the Brazilian Central Bank is quite up-to-date when it comes to the crypto world.
Another piece of information already disclosed in early March and reinforced at the event is the use of Hyperledger Besu, a corporate-focused technology that uses Ethereum network components to enable the creation and management of decentralized applications in a facilitated and scalable way in this projt.
- But will everyone be crypto?
The issue of onboarding new users is inherent in new technologies and with the blockchain and everything it provides, it is no different. What happens is that, in the current scenario, it is worth reflecting on: who exactly do we want to onboard?
Not every person wants (or needs) a blockchain solution. At least not at this time. But this same technology can be useful for companies - a good example of this is the luxury goods industry. For brands, the blockchain can be interesting as a way to ensure the authenticity and traceability of a good - which is not necessarily useful for the end customer. After all, what he/she wants is a way to prove the authenticity of that good, not to know on which network the registration of that is.
On the other hand - and now focusing on those who already make crypto transactions - an interesting piece of information that was reinforced by Metamask during the event is that soon it, which is one of the most used wallets in the world, will allow integrated plugins that analyze transactions before they happen - through snaps developed by the community. This is a way to increase security - and to make the issue of transparency inherent in the blockchain more accessible - for those who have already passed this onboarding stage.
- Crypto Tourist Guide
As we exemplified in the item above, not everyone wants or needs to understand how the blockchain works. This is true for end-users but also for institutional users - what they both want are the benefits that this technology can provide. That is precisely why we should see an increase in the number of companies like 'software houses' that develop specific solutions based on demands from other organizations as a trend.
That is, they are companies that have already understood the value and benefits they can get from the blockchain but need a 'tourist guide' to develop the ideal itinerary (or solution). For now, asset tokenization and the development of NFTs are among the most sought-after areas when it comes to this topic.
- Why DAO?
Khiza is a DAO venture studio. And that alone incites interesting discussions. The main one - and that we heard a few times throughout the event - is: "but does Khiza really need to be a DAO?".
And the answer is that Khiza could exist in a series of ways, DAO or not. But it was a choice of ours to constitute it this way. For a long time, companies were (and still are) created and organized in the same way, following the same pattern - and we wanted to test a different way. Not all arguments about DAOs are positive - especially about the fact that Khiza is a DAO - but the positive points made us want to try it out.
The same goes for discussions around venture studios - while some, especially venture funds, may consider developing multiple projects at once as a lack of focus, we see this choice through the lens of exploration. There's so much to explore, and so many possibilities on the table - we don't want to limit ourselves. In just a few months of existence, we've already launched a series of projects and have an extensive roadmap for 2023 - and our projects were designed to have synergy between them. It's not a lack of focus: it's ecosystem thinking.
- There's more out there
Finally, one of the main benefits of participating in events - it makes us want to know and learn more. Khiza has always been focused on solutions for EVM, but debates and lectures have made us curious to better understand languages like Sway or how we can develop solutions for Cartesi, and Algorand.
This feeling of wanting to learn and do more comes to tie together all the topics we have covered here with the bow of dev tools. In other words, the tools for those who are developing in web3 are also a trend - if we see an increase in tokenization and even in the various ways of using NFTs, we want to provide solutions for those who are seeking them.
Let's see what's coming next...
