Khang Thai talks the future of esports, working at Razer, and his favourite products
I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Khang Thai about the ever-growing Razer Invitational. Now, I'm here to share a little more insights from my chat with Khang, including his work at Razer and the future of the brand. He also shared with his personal favourite Razer product and hinted at some upcoming products on the horizon.
Working for Razer
Working for Razer is probably a pretty sweet gig, especially if gaming and esports is your thing. Khang certainly thinks so, as he told me about how much he loves working in this industry:
I think what it is, Razer has always been about the community. Everything we do has always been about giving them the best products possible. I work with such passionate people at Razer, the products we made, the services we provide people [...] Everything you think about [when working is] , 'how can we make that experience for gamers better.' I think that’s the most exciting thing. In my particular area, I work with some of the best players in the world, best teams in the world. I get to tell their stories through our eyes and through their lense. Esports is such a great place to be. I love being here [...] The connections I’ve made, the people I’ve spoken with. It’s, I’m just so grateful and so lucky.
I shared in my previous interview article with Khang (which you can find on Upcomer), that Khang really enjoyed the Razer Invitational last year. He elaborated a little more and said he just loves how Razer is there to support the dreams of people. He told me this is why he loves working for Razer:
Oh gosh there are so many favourite things! *laughs* I really think my favourite thing about [the Razer Invitational] is, it’s so different for every different region we’re a part of. All the games are different, the players are different, even language is different. Some of our casters are from LATAM, some are Portuguese, and Spanish. There’s something really special about that. You may not see at the professional level, and the fact Razer can be there, supporting the dreams of a lot of people, I think that’s the exciting thing.
Razer products
The staff at Razer are able to test, try, and use Razer products every day. I asked Khang what is his favourite Razer product. He said it was hard to choose because "[Razer] make so many great things". But he said as far as peripherals go, it's the Razer Viper:
I think on the hardware side: the Razer Viper Ultimate. It’s a mouse I use everyday. I love the way it feels in my hand, the way it moves and glides across my mousepad. It’s awesome, I really really love it. As a close second, I’d say the Blackshark V2 headset, which is the one I’m wearing right now. It’s the lightest headset I’ve really ever worn. It sounds great, feels great, I hope I sound great to you!

I've been lucky enough to review both these products. Check out my articles on the Razer Viper and the Razer Blackshark. Last year, Razer announced some pretty futuristic products, including Project Hazel and Project Brooklyn. Both of these products are amazing and I asked Khang to comment on a some of the things that might be coming to Razer.
New products and announcements from E3
Khang hinted that there are some "amazing" things to come in the future. Whilst he said he "wish [he] could talk about some of the stuff [Razer has] got coming", he did talk about Project Hazel. He said he's pretty excited about this smart mask:
Min himself has talked about Project Hazel and how we are working to bring that to the masses. That is something I am so excited for. I think the community is going to love when they get to put on that mask and they have the RGB lighting, and it’s just so cool. It’s really really cool and I can’t wait to wear one myself.

There was also some talk about some of the announcements from E3 too. The new products unveiled at E3 from Razer included the Razer Blade 14 Ultimate and Razer's new charging device. This charger is a USB-C Gallium Nitride charger. The GaN charger is a first for Razer and promises high power charging in a compact package.
Future of esports at Razer
In my last article with Khang, he said to stay tuned for more information on the Razer Invitational. But it's not just the Invitational that fans should be keeping an eye on. When I asked Khang what's next, he smile and said:
Down the line, just pay attention to where we’re going with esports. I think we’re going to have some really amazing announcements coming up that will just blow everyone’s mind. So, I can’t wait!
Khang also mentioned Razer are looking for more teams to sponsor in the APAC region. Going back to our conversation about the Razer Invitational, he said many regions want that kind of action. Razer is therefore looking for more teams in other regions to sponsor:
We sponsor a team - Legacy Esports - out there in Australia. There’s a huge community of competitors out there who really want this kind of action. I think from a business side of things, we’re paying more attention to now. We’re looking for more teams to sponsor there in that region.
What will be in store next for gamers? Will we see some massive IRL esports events in the next couple of years? Will there be a Razer-sponsored team in your region soon? What do you think is coming?
