KFC is leaving Kentucky
KFC, Kentucky Fried Chicken is leaving its birthplace. The company just announced that it will relocate its HQ to Texas. Wait, does that mean they will rename the brand to TFC?
The Kentucky Governor immediately expressed his disappointment in his official statement to CNN. I would also be upset if the iconic fast-food chain, which is so synonymous with Kentucky, chooses to move out of the state during my term as Governor.
The decision is all about money.
KFC has been struggling for years and so it’s been desperate to save cost. Over the past few years, there has been a parade of companies relocating to Texas where they can enjoy business-friendly regulations and tax cuts.
Chevron, Tesla, X, SpaceX, HP, Oracle, and now KFC. Can you tell what puts them together in the same category? They relocated their base from its origin to Texas. Since Governor Abbott's promise for “less government” and “smarter regulations” in 2021, Texas has become a hotspot for big corporations and new businesses that are looking to grow.
Of course, there is always a dark side. There are people and organizations who oppose policies in Texas for being too business-friendly, not enough worker protection, and weak environmental regulations.
...and I think this is one of the US’s key advantages.
The US is a federal country consisting of 50 states. Those who moved to Texas will look for another home as soon they start to doubt their decision. Texas might be a great place. But to keep it that way, they should do better because other States are chasing.
