Keystone XL Pipeline

As President Biden has made it clear that there will not be a Keystone XL pipeline bringing oil from Canada to Cushing it’s appropriate to examine the attitude that led to this decision. Is Biden just a crazy liberal that opposes fossil fuels in any form? Perhaps. But we should remember that four years ago President Trump promised to make the pipeline a reality day one. He couldn’t get it done- in four years ! Here’s the main reason.

>> A thorough review of this study below demonstrates that Americans overwhelmingly support doing something to halt “climate change“.
>> Even the majority of Republicans believe that it is a serious problem at least partially caused by man.
>> In a democracy majority opinion is everything. That’s true especially when that opinion continues to go in the same direction; against fossil fuels .
>> Of course the schizophrenia of the American public also shows through in this data. While they continually express grave alarm about climate change almost no one is willing to spend more of “their” money to combat it.
>> So where does that leave those of us who care about sound energy policy for America going forward?
>> First of all, we should immediately cease all rhetoric that is dismissive of the problem of climate change.
>> We have simply lost that battle and continuing to fight it merely marginalizes us with an already fossil fuel wary public.
>> There are strong rational arguments about how this battle could be fought without decimating the fossil fuel industry.
>> This problem is a planetary problem not a United States Of America problem. We should advocate that any action to be taken not be unilateral. In other words, everyone should agree to address the issue with all of the main emitters across the globe equally sharing the burden.

>> We should calculate the true cost and communicate that cost to the American public. In reality the American public will not have the will to make a dramatic shift away from fossil fuels once they understand the true cost / benefit of doing so. The old mantra that “ America needs American oil” is still true and will be for the next half century. But messages and words coming from the industry matter and must get into alignment with the public as we move forward to supply the public with the affordable energy we all need.
