How many times have you heard that? The Secret to your success? The one thing you have to know. This is how to get rich. This is the secret to super success.
But the secret is, there is only one secret.
And that is, how do you become the most influential person within YOUR circle or niche.
If we watch our peers we can see how some are consulted on so many things and some are never even considered. We watch how celebrities come and go and then when we hear or see their stories we start to understand that it wasn’t that they were that great an actor but it was the circle of people that they ‘accidentally’ fell in with.
I remember watching the story of the Four Seasons and who they were involved with and how that catapulted them to the right things. I remember watching ‘Ray’ the movie and who he met when he first hit town. Many of whom become huge stars along with Ray.
Now let’s talk about you.
What exactly are you doing to become the most influential person in your circle? That’s what I do. I teach people how to become successful by teaching them the things they need to do to fall into those circles. OK, fall isn’t the right word, move into those places where you are noticed and valued. Into those places where people look at you differently. How to place yourself into a position where you are the one that people turn to for advice. Where you Become The Go-To Person For Your Own Success. (Oh, why yes, that does happen to be the name of my book.)
But it’s more than a book, it’s a lifestyle.
It is finding the right people and sharing your knowledge and expertise with the right people. Have you heard the saying, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know? I am a firm believer in both.
If you know all the right people you might be able to ride their coat-tails for a while before you fall into a groupie category. No real talent but simply hanging around. If you know the right things people might ask you every once in a while, for your input, but then you are outside the circle again.
If you know the right people and you know the right things then you are halfway to your own success. Yes, half the way. You and I know people who know the right things and know the right people but are never really involved. They always sit at the corners of the table and watch what is happening while movers and shakers rattle the world or the company or the community.
What separates the movers and the shakers from the rest are a combination of things. Often a series of events that catapult someone into the center of the circle and if, IF they have what it takes they can remain in that circle with the movers and shakers and change their whole world into what they want it to be.
In all sales communities we have heard of the successful sales person who is the pitchman whether they are male or female. They are the ones who make that initial impression and often times get that great sale because they are so good at pitching their product. They have the gift of gab and they make their initial impression into the group as people enjoy hearing their stories or pitches.
We have also heard about the successful person who is the authority figure. The one who knows a lot and is asked for their opinion whenever the problem needs their type of help. They come and go in the group depending upon their expertise and knowledge of specific topics or subjects.
We have also been around when that celebrity person appears. Either local or national they create a stir simply because they bring their name to the group. They are the local or national TV name, the local author, the sports celeb or the literary celeb but something makes them stand out for a while as their name carries them into a position of influence. Sometimes it’s a book or article that pops them up to celebrity status. A picture with the right people. A mention in the news or magazine.
We have also known those people who have great ideas. They are the ones that people like having around to help solve the situation. The fact that some are idea people and some are problem/solution people they still are around and invited into the circle when that need arrives.
And of course there are the Leaders. The leaders do not have to lead the group. There can be many leaders in one group but each knows who the leader is in any situation and real leaders are not led by ego but by the desire to help others in their quest for success in any endeavor. The real leaders are the people who embody all of the things we have been talking about in this article.
And all of those things are skills that people have. Any skill can be learned and every leader learned to be a leader and so can you.
When you put all of these things together you will find yourself in the center of the things happening. You will find yourself being invited new places. Find yourself where people not only want to meet you but want to introduce others to you. Find yourself being offered the right opportunities. Find yourself talked about in a good way and referred to new and exciting projects because you are one of the movers and shakers who gets things done and knows people who can help.
