Takeaways from the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) ??

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently published its highly anticipated Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). By now, you’ve probably seen a few headlines (we’ve even shared a few!) outlining the challenges individuals, governments, and industries face in addressing climate change as outlined in the report. We’ve done a deeper dive and wanted to share some key takeaways:?

1. Human activities, primarily through emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs), “have unequivocally caused global warming, with the global surface temperature reaching 1.1°C above 1850–1900 in 2011–2020.” (p. 6)?
2. There are some changes set in motion by past practices that are “unavoidable and/or irreversible.” the full effect of which can only be offset by “deep, rapid, and sustained global greenhouse gas emissions reduction.” (p.34)?
3. Climate change poses a security risk, adversely affecting food, water, and weather security. (p.15)
4. Investment in climate mitigation technologies and continued research and development is vital. (p. 54)?
5. Policies that shift development pathways towards sustainability can broaden the portfolio of available mitigation and adaptation responses. (p. 55)

At NEXT, we see the the climate crisis as a challenge our business was created to take on, and one all businesses must face.

Focusing on the decarbonization of the transportation sector is key to reducing collective GHGs, and solutions like renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel are an obvious piece of that climate solution puzzle.
