Key Takeaways from REMIX London 2025: The future of Experience Design.

Key Takeaways from REMIX London 2025: The future of Experience Design.

After two packed days at REMIX London 2025, my biggest takeaways were the importance of community and connection, well-being, the democratization of culture, and how to reach new audiences. The rapid evolution of technology over the past decade—and what’s coming in the next ten years—was a recurring theme. AI is no longer just a tool; it’s becoming an active contributor to creativity and storytelling.

Remix Day 1 - Here East

With so much happening across multiple stages, I know I barely scratched the surface! Here’s my take on the most exciting insights and trends. Let’s dive in. ??

1. The Immersive Economy is Booming

The market for experiential entertainment is projected to reach $430 billion by 2030, up from $28.7 billion in 2022. What’s driving it?

  • The Sphere (Las Vegas) & Outernet (London) – These entertainment hubs are redefining how large-scale immersive content is delivered, merging technology with performance in unprecedented ways.
  • Shared VR Experiences (Horizon of Khufu) – A fascinating step forward in digital heritage, allowing audiences to walk through ancient Egypt with state-of-the-art immersive storytelling.
  • Multi-Platform Storytelling: Sony’s?Future Immersive Entertainment Concept and Mega Mart are focused on immersive, gamified entertainment.

2. The ‘Liveable Web’ and the Future of Digital Engagement

With 1 in 4 users feeling overwhelmed by digital life, people are moving away from hyper-curated content towards more meaningful, joyful, and community-driven digital spaces. Insights from We Are Social's Think Forward 2025: The Liveable Web report shows how brands and creators can adapt:

  • Control & Curation – Users want autonomy over their feeds and digital interactions rather than being at the mercy of ever-changing algorithms.
  • The Pristine Generation – A shift towards raw, unfiltered content that values honesty over hyper-production.
  • Low-Stakes Social Media – Audiences are embracing no-context memes, niche communities, and playful engagement over pressure-heavy posting.
  • Modern Myth-Making – Easter eggs, digital folklore, and deeper storytelling are becoming essential for cultural relevance.

You can read the?Think Forward 2025?report?here for a full breakdown.

3. Fashion Meets Tech: The Metaverse is Getting Personal

Fashion brands are rapidly innovating at the intersection of AI, volumetric capture, and digital personalization.

  • 3D Fashion Geometry – Studies show that 3D modeling can increase sales and reduce returns by making online shopping more accurate.
  • AI-Driven Personalisation – MetaHuman avatars, AI-generated styling, and text-to-video fashion campaigns are changing how we engage with fashion content.
  • London Fashion Week’s Immersive Evolution – Blurring the lines between digital fashion and real-world wearables.

4. Museums are Becoming Community Hubs

Cultural institutions are embracing a more interactive, inclusive, and wellbeing-driven approach.

  • Manchester Museum’s Radical Inclusion Model – Prioritizing co-created exhibitions, accessibility, and the return of cultural artifacts to their original countries.
  • National Gallery’s ‘Mixtape’ AI – Personalised soundtracks for visitors based on their artistic preferences.
  • The Role of Culture in Wellbeing – Arts-driven experiences are emerging as powerful tools for mental health support and social cohesion. Neuroaesthetics & Wellbeing Robyn Landau Kinda Studio – Insights from neuroscience show that cultural experiences can positively impact mental health, stress reduction, and cognitive function. Therefore we should rethink Cultural Spaces as Healing Environments – tools for mental resilience and emotional recovery.

5. Storytelling is Evolving into Storyliving

It’s not just about telling stories anymore—it’s about living them. The future of storytelling is immersive, interactive, and participatory.

  • Grand Theft Hamlet – A groundbreaking blend of gaming, theatre, and documentary filmmaking by Sam Crane
  • Modern Myth-Making – Brands are using folklore, hidden messages, and deep engagement to build long-term cultural significance.
  • "The Memory Economy" – Sensory-driven experiences are proving to have a stronger emotional impact and recall than passive content. Andrew McGuinness of layered reality producing the new Elvis experience states that he's in the business of creating memories and stated his company wants their experiences to be a person's highlight experience from the year.

6. The Night-Time Economy Needs a Reset

The UK’s nightlife industry is bigger than fashion and automotive, yet it's struggling post-pandemic. What’s changing?

  • Competitive Socialising is Rising – Activities like immersive gaming bars, escape rooms, and experiential dining are on the rise.
  • Older Generations are Reclaiming Nightlife – While Gen Z struggles with social anxiety and the cost of living, older generations are more engaged in cultural nightlife than before.
  • Sydney’s 24-Hour Economy Strategy Michael Rodriguez Sydney’s 24-hour economy commissioner, presented his vision for a thriving, safe, and diverse night-time ecosystem. His strategy includes expanded cultural programming, better late-night public transport, and policies to support a mix of businesses beyond clubs and bars. Learn more here.

7. AI in Creativity: A Tool, Not the Star

Artists are using AI to enhance creativity, not replace it.

  • Somerset House’s AI Innovation Hub – Supporting artists in using AI as a co-creative tool.
  • Democratization of Creative Tools – AI is breaking down barriers to entry in music, art, and content creation.
  • New Financial Models – The economic implications of AI for creative industries are still unfolding.

8. The 200 Creators Network: Meaningful Collaboration

The National Gallery’s 200 Creators Network was a fascinating case study into redefining how institutions work with digital culture.

  • Creators Know Their Audiences Best – Institutions should provide frameworks but let creators lead the content.
  • Authenticity is Key – Audiences can instantly detect forced collaborations.
  • Tech Should Connect, Not Distract – Digital tools should enhance storytelling, not overshadow it.

9. The Role of Tech in Flow State Experiences

Megan Wastell from Merlin Entertainment advocated that Tech should enhance immersion rather than break it.

  • Flow States Boost Engagement by 500x – When users are deeply immersed, their engagement skyrockets.
  • Ferrari x Lego ‘Build & Race’ – A seamless blend of digital and physical experience.
  • Good Design Makes You Feel, Not Forget – Emotional connection is the future of experience design.

10. The Mona Miracle: Challenge Everything

Robbie Brammall showed us how Mona (Museum of Old and New Art) in Tasmania has revolutionized cultural engagement with a fearless approach.

  • Ignore Expectations – Disrupt, provoke, and surprise audiences.
  • Marketing Through Experience – Live experiments, risk-taking, and unpredictability make for compelling storytelling.
  • Mona's brand principles include: anything you do is everything you do; don't pander to the audience, show don't tell, and never drift to the middle.

Final Thought: What’s Next?

At the heart of it all? Experiences that make people feel.

Whether through bold storytelling, AI-powered collaboration, or reinventing nightlife, the future of experience design is about human connection and cultural impact.

This is just a snapshot of what stood out to me at REMIX London 2025—I know I missed plenty!

If you were there, what were your biggest takeaways?
