The Key to Success: Solving Problems at the Root

The Key to Success: Solving Problems at the Root

Welcome to The Plumber Next Door! In this edition, we explore how to solve issues at their root so they disappear forever. At EOS Worldwide, we teach a process called The Issues Solving Track? (IDS?), which involves Identifying, Discussing, and Solving issues. Here, I’ll focus on the crucial "Identify" step.

Understanding Issues

An “issue” can be an obstacle, barrier, opportunity, idea, or anything that needs to be addressed to achieve your vision. Many teams waste time solving symptoms rather than root causes. The key is to identify the real issue.

The Stated Issue is Rarely the Real Issue

Our brains simplify our environments, often leading us to address symptoms rather than root causes. For example, if sales are off-track, the real problem might lie elsewhere. Here are questions to help identify the root cause:

  • Vision: Are the goals realistic? Is the marketing strategy effective?
  • People: Do you have the right people in the right roles?
  • Data: Are you measuring the right metrics?
  • Issues: Are long-standing issues being addressed?
  • Process: Are sales processes documented and followed?
  • Traction: Is the team focused on priorities every 90 days?

By asking these questions, you can uncover the real issues behind the symptoms.

Conclusion

Never take the stated issue at face value. Dig deeper to find the root cause. In future editions of The Plumber Next Door, I’ll share more tools to master the IDS process.
