The Key to Success and Making The Right Career Move.

The Key to Success and Making The Right Career Move.

After doing a lot of headhunting for many candidates from different companies across the country I think there is some important information that mus be shared.

As you all know headhunting is happening more and more every day whether it be me that calls you to discuss potential opportunities, another Rec2Rec or even an employer direct. We are all using the same tactics to find the very best people.

As I tell all of my candidates whether I have headhunted them or if they have applied for a role you must DO YOUR RESEARCH on if that potential move is right for you.

How do you do your research on a potential employer? There are a number of ways from your standard call the company and speak to a staff member to looking at reviews on Indeed, Glass Door, calling in and finally using LinkedIn as a tool.

So you contact a current employee of the company you are in the process of or have been made an offer by and the current employee gives you an amazing reference on the company.  There are a number of reasons they do but the main ones are;

  1. They may think that anything they tell you will go back to their manager.
  2. They are really happy in their role.

Should your research stop their though???? No!!!! LinkedIn is a powerful tool and you can easily find ex employees of a company, be sure to contact a few of them to make a fair analysis.  If you find that their reasons for leaving are all the same then that is when alarm bells should start ringing.

Don't be afraid to raise this when you meet your potential new employer at interview or once you have received an offer, if you are worried about the offer not coming through.  I recommend this to every single one of my candidates and my clients are always made aware during the process that a candidate could ask this question if a candidate expresses concern.

My point is there are many organisations that will sell you the dream and some of those roles / organisations will be the dream move for you, but always do your research on as many different platforms as possible. If you speak to people then speak to a few people not just one.

Hope this clears a few things up to help people make sure they make the right move in their future careers.

Good luck in your search :)
