Key to Success - Communication

The means world relates to you. There is information/communication that radiates out of each one of us at any given moment through various forms such as visual, verbal or emotional. We receive acknowledgement in form of feedback like: “I see what you are up to”, “I hear what you want”, or “I totally empathize with you” based on receiving person’s way of learning. 

In verbal communication, tone, pitch, speed, volume and choice of words plays important role. Some like short and to the point verbal communication, while others prefer long, storytelling communication.

For written communication, formatting and style (formal or informal) is important.

For non-verbal communications, such as touch, expression, body language, and gestures play a huge role as well. Different cultures have various meanings to the same non-verbal communications. 

We use various styles of communication in our daily lives. Wholesome communication is one that has a clear purpose, an intended action, and an expectation for others to understand and infer critical information. Various objectives demand different tones to resonate with audience, such as who you are communicating with and for what purpose. Most of us like to be around people who respect us. While we like transparency from others, so it is equally important to be honest about the type of communication we have with others. The choice of words or actions could be assertive (respectful, expressive, responsible), aggressive (demanding, intimidating, hostile), submissive (apologetic, victim, inexpressive), manipulative (sulking, indirect, make others feel obliged & sorry) and passive-aggressive (gossips, sarcastic and unreliable).

Many professional leaders are coached to use situational base communication to get business results. However, every once in a while we see the power of empathetic listening, silent selfless acts, and honest intentions. If one is clear on communication with self then communication with other becomes pleasant automatic. It is a journey from not knowing the power of communication, to mastering it, and finally giving it up but still being successful to achieve indented outcome for self and others with pure intentions.
