Key Questions to Ask Yourself Before the #Interview

Key Questions to Ask Yourself Before the #Interview

I’m going to get straight to the point today – feeling motivated and excited about a #JobOpportunity, while great, is not enough. You need that excitement and motivation you feel about the role tied up with some logical reasons as to WHY you’re the #1 candidate for the role. That’s what leads to real self-belief and confidence about an opportunity.

Here are some questions you need to ask yourself before the #Interview, and if it helps, I suggest writing down your responses. These questions are simply a starting point – feel free to expand on these and add your own which will provide you with measurable and practical data to support the fact that you're the right candidate for the job:

1)     What are the major skills required for this role and which ones do I have? If I don’t have the exact skill set they’re looking for, do I have something similar which is very transferable?

2)     What is the problem the position I’m applying for is seeking to solve? What skill sets, knowledge, etc do I bring to the table which can accomplish solving this problem?

3)     Which industry is this company in? Have I worked in the same or similar industries? What have I done/accomplished for this industry? If not – what do I know about this industry? What’s my personal interest in this industry and why should I be excited about it? What I have done in the industries I've worked in so far?

4)     What type of projects will I be working on at this company for this particular role? Have I completed similar or the same type of projects? If not – in the past, have I ever completed a project for the first time which I’d never tackled anytime prior to that point in my career and still delivered on it successfully? Were my managers impressed and happy with the work I produced?

The questions above aren’t exhaustive, these are just so you have a starting point to write your responses and start seeing the logical reasons as to why YOU are the ideal candidate for the role. Writing down these reasons will provide you with the logic needed to see why what you bring to the table is of value to the employer. Look – feeling excited about a potential job opportunity is great and all, but it needs to have a solid foundation as well, one built on facts, figures and logic. If you have both – the excitement and motivation to win the #Interview in addition to having logical reasons why you’re the ideal candidate for the role – you’ll have a definite advantage over any competing candidates, all else being equal.

Wishing you the best in your #JobSearch!
