When you choose to invest your time, energy, and finances into personal development, having the right coach is essential. It's not just about following a set of rules or guidelines—it's about being mentored by someone who sees you as an individual, who celebrates your victories (no matter how small), and who creates a space where you're comfortable asking any question, without judgment. A great coach helps you walk through the hard stuff, holds you accountable, and believes in your potential every step of the way.
1. Creating a Safe Space for Open Communication
One of the most important qualities of a good coach is creating an environment where clients feel comfortable asking any question. Let’s be honest, it can be intimidating to reach out for help, especially when it feels like you're supposed to "know better." But here's the truth: there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
I personally encourage asking questions, big or small, because it's how we grow. In my coaching style, you’ll find no room for condescension or judgment. Instead, I aim to create a relationship built on mutual respect and trust. After all, if you don’t feel safe asking questions, how can we move forward together?
One of the graduates from my Master Grief Coach Certification program, Lynn, recently said in a video testimonial, “Working with Terri was a real pleasure. She's the best cheerleader... such a good cheerleader. I felt that she gave me a lot of confidence that I was on the right path.” For me, that confidence-building comes from knowing that my clients feel they can always come to me for clarity, guidance, or simply reassurance.
2. Accountability Without Judgment
Accountability is key in any coaching relationship. But let me be clear—it doesn’t mean being harsh or condescending. A good coach holds you accountable with respect, creating a balance where you're encouraged to push your limits, but never left feeling inadequate.
I’ll hold you to the goals you’ve set, remind you of your potential, and keep you on track. But, I’ll always do so in a way that uplifts, rather than diminishes. For example, when you're struggling or falling behind, I’m there to help you find the reason why—not to shame you for it. We’ll work together to find solutions, rather than focus on failures.
3. Celebrating Every Win, No Matter How Small
Let’s talk about victories. Often, when people think about success, they focus only on the big milestones. However, in my coaching style, I make it a point to celebrate every win, no matter how small. Whether you’ve conquered a major life hurdle or simply taken the first step toward a bigger goal, it’s worth acknowledging. These small wins build momentum, helping you realize that progress is happening—even when it doesn’t feel that way.
I make sure to pause and celebrate with my clients because recognizing these moments reinforces the idea that you are making progress. This, in turn, fuels motivation and confidence. When a client completes a small step in their healing journey or makes progress in their coaching certification, I’m their biggest cheerleader, ensuring they know how far they've come.

4. Encouragement and Genuine Investment in Your Success
As a coach and mentor, I’m not just here to provide a framework or curriculum; I’m invested in your success. I deeply care about every individual I work with. Your goals become my goals. When you succeed, I succeed. My coaching is built on the belief that everyone has the potential to grow and achieve, but that journey is personal and requires tailored guidance.
That’s why I make encouragement a cornerstone of my coaching. I’ll push you to keep going when things get tough, and I’ll remind you of your strengths when self-doubt creeps in. Being your cheerleader isn't just about saying, "You can do it!"—it's about genuinely believing in your ability to overcome obstacles and grow, even on the hard days.
5. Earning Respect and Building Trust
Trust is at the heart of any strong coaching relationship. I take my responsibility seriously, recognizing that you’ve placed your trust in me, not just as a coach but as a mentor. Respect, for me, goes both ways: I respect your time, your goals, and your vulnerability in seeking guidance. And in turn, I hope to earn your respect through my actions—by always showing up, by never belittling your questions, and by remaining fully present and invested in your journey.
One thing you’ll never experience with me is feeling dismissed or undervalued. I understand that my role as a coach means being someone you can rely on for honest, kind, and constructive feedback. My aim is for you to leave each session feeling heard, respected, and empowered to move forward.
Client Testimonial: A Glimpse Into My Coaching Style
Another graduate of my Master Grief Coach Certification program, Emily, recently shared some heartfelt words in a testimonial that perfectly capture my approach to coaching:
"......Terri was wonderful to work with and was always available for questions or general discussion. I recommend this course to anyone considering becoming a Grief Coach."
That testimonial speaks volumes about my commitment to supporting and uplifting my clients. I strive to ensure that every person I coach feels not only guided but empowered and confident in their journey. When my clients succeed, I succeed—because their growth is my purpose.
Final Thoughts: Investing in a Supportive and Respectful Coaching Relationship
When it comes to personal and professional development, having a coach who respects, encourages, and truly invests in your growth is invaluable. You deserve someone who will stand by your side, hold you accountable without judgment, and celebrate every step of your journey. As your coach, I’m committed to being that person for you.
In the end, my goal is simple: to help you reach yours while feeling fully supported, respected, and confident every step of the way.
