Key Lessons I Learnt as A Young Entrepreneur (that are still relevant today)

This Youth Month, I can’t help but reflect on my journey as a young entrepreneur, in particular, the things I wish I had known back then and what I think could have helped me have a better entrepreneurship experience

I remembered a feature on Destiny magazine as it took place when I was experiencing the most growth and an equal amount of challenges in my fashion business. I learned a lot from that business; here are some key lessons I’d like to share:

1. Expect challenges and hardships in your business. No matter how much you know, how much business advice you receive and how well you know the industry that you are operating in, you will still experience challenges. Things do get hard because that is the nature of entrepreneurship. So when you experience challenges, do not be discouraged because it is normal; use the challenges you face to learn and build your resilience.

2. Your mental strength is critical in your achieving success. It does not matter how much you know or do not know; if you have mental strength, you’ll find a way to navigate and overcome anything that comes your way. You build your mental strength by being aware of how you think when you experience challenges, thinking positively and progressively when you experience challenges, and always having the bigger picture in mind no matter what you are facing.

3. You are the greatest and most valuable asset in your business. When you invest in your personal development and growth, your business will also benefit positively from this growth.

4. You are young so explore opportunities and new ways of doing things in your market. Being young affords you the advantage of having lots of energy and time. Use this advantage wisely by exploring new opportunities and innovations that will contribute to the growth of your business.

5. The more you build your business knowledge, the better you’ll become at growing your business. So surround yourself with a network of people who have expertise and experience in areas that can help your business excel.

Remember, every challenge you face is an opportunity to learn and build resilience. Your mental strength will be your guiding force through the toughest times. Personal development is not just an investment in yourself but in your business as well. Use your youthful energy to innovate and explore new opportunities, and surround yourself with a network of knowledgeable and experienced individuals.

Your entrepreneurial journey is unique, filled with potential and promise. Embrace it with optimism, knowing that every step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to your dreams. Keep pushing forward, stay resilient, and let your passion drive you towards success. The future is yours to shape, and with these lessons in mind, you are well-equipped to make it a bright and prosperous one
