The Key to Keeping Resolutions in 2023

How many of you had resolved on 1st Jan 2022 that you would exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, become less irritable or lose weight in this year. And how many of you actually managed to do what you had resolved to do? I know many people who started walking on 1st Jan and stopped within a week. I know many who wanted to lose weight but have put on more weight.

I am sure you had great intentions when you made your resolutions on 1st Jan 2022, but some circumstances came along, and you gave up. Do we want the same to happen this year too? I am sure your response will be, not at all! This year let’s make sure that we overcome all obstacles and successfully keep our resolutions.

Set Health Goals

Set Health Goals

Health goals are easy to set but often hard to stick to. Ensure that your goal is motivating enough for you to follow through. Anticipate challenges and how you will overcome them. Identify someone who can help you in keeping the resolution and developing new habits.

To make your new habits stick, I suggest you listen to the book summary of Atomic Habits written by James Clear given below and if it motivates you, please read the book as it can help you develop new habits which can change your life!

To set your health goals, you must first recognize your risk factors and then create those health goals which will help you reduce the risk factors.

?To recognize your risk factors

Do a complete medical checkup which will give you detailed information about all your medical parameters like BP, Blood Sugar, Blood Cholesterol etc. ?? ?????? Do a Self-Analysis of Risk Factors which can lead to medical conditions in the future

?Self-Analysis:

?Answer a Yes or a No to the following questions and count the number of Yes. If you need clarification about any of the question given below, please ask me in the comment section, will reply asap.

1.????Are you a non-smoker? 2.????Do you check your BP regularly? 3.????Do you have a balanced Diet? 4.????Do you exercise regularly? 5.????Do you consume alcohol in limits or do not consume alcohol at all? 6.????Do you take time off to relax? 7.????Are you at your ideal body weight? 8.????Do you take minor hassles in your stride and not get irritated very fast?

Results

7-8 Yes: Excellent 5-6 Yes: Good 1-4 Yes: You seriously need to make wellness your priority in 2023

Reducing your Risk Factors:

Having completed the self-analysis, you now know that wherever you have answered a No is your risk factor. Accordingly, please set your SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Time Bound) Health goals and create a plan to work on the same. Discuss the same with your spouse or a mentor. Your end goal for 2023 is to be able to do the self-analysis again in Dec 2023 and answer a Yes to all the above questions.

In this article, I will just be touching upon some generic guidelines about having a balanced diet and doing regular exercise. I recommend that you please consult a qualified nutritionist and a physical trainer to support you with specific problems that you may have. ????

Having a balanced diet

Ensure that you include appropriate amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins & minerals in your daily diet. Minimize the intake of salt and sugar in your diet. Ensure that you include fiber in your diet. Daily intake of fruits and salads will provide the same. ?? Do not skip breakfast. Have your remaining meals on time. Have at least 7-8 glasses of water per day Eat slowly and chew your food properly. Do not cut down on your meals drastically to lose weight. Moderation is the key to success.

Do regular exercises

Your exercises should be a combination of aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, running etc. as well as anaerobic exercises like weight lifting, stretching etc. You should exercise at least for 30 mins five times a week Any time of the day is fine to exercise. Do not exercise for at least 2 hours after a meal Remain physically active through the day and look for opportunity to remain active. Get your own stuff yourself, climb stairs, park your car a little far away so that you can walk the remaining distance. The best exercise for you is what you can do consistently.

Following the above will help you slowly and steadily progress towards achieving your health goals. It does take time and do not expect miracles to happen as soon as you start. I can assure you that being consistent will help you achieve your goals in 2023.

Are you ready to take up the challenge? ??

I wish you and your family a very happy and healthy 2023.
