Key ingredient to building a high performing team

Leaders who seek to build high performance teams should focus on creating an environment of high psychological safety, or "the shared belief held by members of a team that it’s OK to take risks, to express their ideas and concerns, to speak up with questions, and to admit mistakes — all without fear of negative consequences." --Amy Edmondson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management, Harvard Business School?

But how do we do we create this environment in the workplace? There is a set of questions every leader should ask themselves:

a) Is your engagement warm and influence stimulating creativity?

b) Do you encourage feedback?

c) Do you lead conversations with questions, rather than judgements?

d) Are you seeking divergent points of view?

e) Are mistakes a source for learning?

This type of introspection will help leaders evolve their thought process and set up the scaffolding to develop high-performing, motivated teams. #leadership?

Thanks for sharing that and your thoughts - very valuable guidance. I think one of the more challenging application of those principles is developing a leadership vision that helps guide teams towards the goals of the organization without having that vision be the prescriptive “handcuffs” that stifles the very creativity and ingenuity that a high performance team can exhibit.
