The Key to Greater Progress in Your Life

The Key to Greater Progress in Your Life

Cleaning Up Your Life

Do you have any unfinished business in your life? We’re referring to any situation that needs to be resolved - old conflicts, damaged relationships, incomplete situations. Do you ever feel the discomfort of old wounds, sleights, injuries, injustices and lingering antagonisms??It’s a topic that rarely occupies our attention even though the issues may remain unresolved for the rest of our lives. And why is this relevant?

It is mental slavery to cling to things that have stopped serving their purpose in your life.

– Chinonye J. Chidolue

One of the themes that we’ve been exploring in our online CEP Foundation Courses is the concept that everything’s connected. Old problems tend to extend their influence into other areas of our lives, contaminating our plans and infecting our capacity to achieve great results. The past might well be extending its shadows into the present.

If only we could clean up the catalogue of unfinished issues and the lingering piles of garbage that litter the background of our lives, how much better would we feel? How much easier would it be to navigate life’s pathways and reach our goals with far less conflict, disruption and effort? The main principle in clearing up the messes in our lives is to make everything else much easier. For ourselves and for others.

Letting go is the willingness to change your beliefs in order to bring more peace and joy into your life - instead of holding onto beliefs that only bring pain and suffering.

– Hal Tipper

The starting point for this surprisingly effective revolutionary movement is to acknowledge that we all makes messes in our lives. Yes, we do. No one is immune from this facet of the human condition. We all create messes – sometimes intentionally and often accidently. The motivation behind the problem is far less relevant than our willingness to clean it up.

The consequences of holding onto unresolved problems and conflicts tend to show up in often-unobserved collections of toxic emotional waste that remain deeply concealed within our subconscious minds. They poison our good intentions and interfere with our plans for a successful future. The past possesses the potential to reach out and cast a dark shadow on the present. So, clearly, we need to clear it up.

And the only time that you have to fix these lingering, old problems – is right now.

One of the easiest ways to launch this important new phase on your pathway to happiness, fulfilment and success is to make a list of all the things that you feel are incomplete in your life. Take your time. This is a perfect opportunity to identify the disputes, arguments, fractured relationships, unspoken words, wrong doings, misdeeds, broken promises, failures, crimes, guilt, regrets, divorce – you get the idea! Write it all down. It is not for public sharing. It’s a strictly private exercise in personal redemption. In many ways, this requires a degree of courage. It’s rarely a comfortable procedure. But it is essential.

You might need to revisit the list several times to complete it. And that’s absolutely fine. Because, once you’ve created your list, you’ll be ready to begin the next phase.

Choose the three most significant items on your list and make a decision to do something about them. Take action to resolve these issues and remove them your list – and from your life – forever. And here’s a suggestion: in any unfinished dispute or conflict, do not offer your forgiveness to the other party. In fact, it will usually have the opposite effect. It really does not work. You can ask for forgiveness, whether the other party is willing to offer it or not. And that means you’re taking full responsibility for the situation, which will serve to set you free from whatever happened, regardless of was or was not to blame.

Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.

– Ann Lander

Once you’ve completed the first three items on your personal Hit List, move on to the next three. This is a steady, reliable and progressive way to address the past and clean up the messes in your life and the best part is that you get to take full responsibility for the whole process. You’re not reliant upon anyone else’s co-operation or participation.

You might be very pleasantly surprised to notice that as soon as you start the process of clearing up the messes and the lingering mounds of toxic garbage in your past, you’ll feel strangely lighter – as if a weight has been removed from your shoulders - more creative, more alive, more aware, more positive, more confident, more in alignment with your hopes and dreams and aspirations.

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be
