Key Findings From Analysis of Domestic Homicide Reviews

If you are not immersed in the world of Domestic Homicide Reviews, you may not be aware of the Key Findings from Analysis of Domestic Homicide Reviews?report published by the Home Office earlier this year. The report analysed 124 DHRs reviewed by the Home Office in the 12 months from October 2019.

It is a feature of our separate review system in England that we may not see this as relevant reading if our work is safeguarding adults or safeguarding children. But understanding the particular vulnerabilities & how they were impacting on victims and perpetrators in those cases will touch & concern your work.

Mental health & substance misuse, or a combination of these factors were identified as vulnerabilities in a number of cases.?For example:

-??????seventy-one percent of the perpetrators were considered to have a vulnerability, with the most common being illicit drug use, mental ill-health & problematic alcohol use.

-??????Sixty-one percent of victims had one vulnerability, of which 34% were mental ill-health, 28% were problem alcohol use & 22% were illicit drug use.

-??????forty-six percent of the victims had been the target of a perpetrator previously, almost always their previous partner.

-??????fifty-two percent of the households where the victim was aged under 60 contained dependent children.

Whether you are involved in Domestic Homicide Reviews, Safeguarding Adults Reviews, Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, or other learning activity, the findings of this report are relevant to your practice.

I am inviting you to join Gaynor Mears, OBE & I on 4th August from 1.00-2.30pm to explore this in more depth & discuss the findings of the report in our free live online workshop called ‘Key Findings From Analysis of Domestic Homicide Reviews’.
