The Key Elements of Our Marketing That Rocked Our Business in 2018...

Last night in my private Facebook Group I shared loads of key takeaways from 2018 content marketing here at Spaghetti Agency.
I thought you might find the highlights useful for 2019 planning...
(It's a short read. I was going to do this as a post, but the character limit on LinkedIn sucks. So, it's now an article!)
1. Content is still king
We've created more, we've got more (leads, sales and profits).
2. Networking can be toned down
I got more for less this year (but I went networking with purpose and spoke at more events and followed up better).
3.Everything you do needs a CTA (Call To Action)
Make sure your audience know what you want them to do next. Tell them, show them, guide them.
4. Email marketing still works… so do more!
Once again our email marketing was the most successful channel. We work hard to get people from social and networking onto our list and despite GDPR our list grew this year. Keep adding value though... 80/20 value/sales.
5. Facebook groups are hot! (LinkedIn ones Not)
Facebook groups were great fun in 2018 and we've been working on growing our own and a few for clients too. One group I admin has been very interesting and also great for business. LinkedIn promised great things but as yet, theirs still suck. Maybe in 2019?
6. LinkedIn is getting better… much better!
But LinkedIn was a better place this year. More media, more content, more conversations and dare I say... MORE FUN!? Bring on the revolution!
7. Video marketing is tough but a great Netflix for business
I went all in on my YouTube this year and as a result posted 20 weeks straight, consistently. The result? Well I'm not overly amazed but the LinkedIn and Facebook uploads did really well. Still, I've got a great Netflix of common questions on YT!
8. People still slag you off!
The more you post, the more attention you get, the more people you'll unearth who don't get you. That's ok and you have to learn to roll with those punches. Tough though.
9. Cat’s and babies still do better on social media
We can't ignore this. It's still better content than most. People love cute stuff and human stuff and the algorithms are geared towards them. Learn from and humanise your content?
10. Simple wins the day
K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple, Stupid) is a mantra I live by for content. Don't over do it. Don't put too many big words in. Don't be STUPID! The average reading age is 12. The most read websites in the world are Daily Mail-esque. It's simple that wins the day and the most views.
11.Rants work (so long as they’re on brand
I blew my top about GDPR this year. YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG I shouted form the top of my blog and it attracted a lot of attention and a potential law suit. But it worked and we got a lot of traffic and link. Rant (so long as your brand aligns with it!).
OVERALL...
2018 was the year I learnt to outsource properly (thanks Dee Atkins) and it's really helped to grow and develop things.
We created more content but made it easy to do so. More content is great so long as it's on point and easy to create.
Get on LinkedIn more and do video and whatever comes next with updates. Getting in early is key.
KISS!
And attention is harder to gain...
You really gotta break your own mould and get out there more and more to gain leads and sales from online marketing.
It's been fun though and we can't wait to get going in 2019.
Thanks for being a part of it!
