Title & Organization: Managing Associate General Counsel, GAO
Can you briefly describe what you do for work?
I am a Senior Executive Service (SES) member at the U. S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) within GAO’s Office of General Counsel (OGC). As Managing Associate General Counsel, I have management responsibility for the agency’s appropriations law function and congressional oversight regarding agency rule-making and vacancies in presidentially appointed, Senate confirmed positions.
How has participating in the Key Programs affected your professional/leadership journey?
The Key Programs helped me hone my abilities to be a more effective coach. It also brought me closer to the other executives in the cohort with whom I have established a lasting bond and network.
How do the teachings in the Key Programs align with achieving your organization's mission?
GAO believes strongly in people values and treating all staff as our greatest assets. The Key Programs focused on fine tuning skills to implement those values.
What are some exciting developments you see coming in the future for public service?
While there is definitely value to in person interaction, these last few years showed us that we can still maintain connectivity and, in some cases, even enhance the quality of work by utilizing 21st Century technology.

Can you describe one of your greatest accomplishments at (or outside of) work?
GAO believes very strongly in diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. And, since becoming a Senior Executive at GAO, I have also become the National President of Blacks In Government better known as BIG. Having the honor of having leadership roles in two organizations with such strong people values is a great accomplishment for me.
What is something that has inspired you recently?
I was inspired by Supreme Court Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson who endured and persevered to make history.
